Unama’ki Economic Benefits Office: Is the result of a unique economic partnership between the five First Nation communities in Cape Breton (Unama’ki). It has established a collaborative approach to economic development and takes a business approach to pursuing economic opportunities for Unama’ki. It also delivers the Unama’ki ASEP Training program to ensure local Mi’kmaq are prepared to be part of these new economic opportunities.
Job Description: You will provide support and guidance to existing and new businesses in the Unama’ki communities. You will also promote business and business opportunities in Unama’ki and promote partnership opportunities. This is a one-year contract position. Upon a successful review, this position may be renewed depending on continued funding. This position is expected to begin approximately Sept.13, 2010. This person will work out of the Unama’ki Economic Benefits Office, Membertou First Nation, NS, frequently working out of other Unama’ki communities. Salary will range from $40,000 to $50,000, depending on qualifications.
This person should possess the following skills and experience:
· Possess a business degree or equivalent business experience and knowledge.
· Experience in preparing and analyzing business plans and in business management
· Extensive knowledge of and experience in working with Unama’ki communities and Unama’ki businesses
· Knowledge and experience with economic development agencies
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Self motivated and personable and works well as a team member
· Excellent computer skills, especially MS Office Suite of applications, and Internet proficiency
· Knowledge of Mi’kmaq language would be an asset. |
