Human Resources Director
Troy joined Membertou’s Human Resources department in July 2016, bringing over 15 years of related experience to his position.
His diverse portfolio includes experience working with University College of the North, Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs, the CB Industrial Board of Trade, and others. He is a graduate of Cape Breton University, where he earned a bachelor of business administration and other certifications.
Troy’s vision is to make Membertou a leader in human resources management, make employees feel valued and respected, foster an environment that makes Membertou the best organization to work with, and assist employees in being more effective and efficient with their jobs.

Human Resources Manager
Richard has been employed with the Membertou Human Resources Department since December 2004. His duties include overseeing all aspects of payroll, time and attendance as well as injury and accident reports.
His experience with payroll stems from the United States Navy. He has been in the payroll field for 10 years, three years of US payroll and seven years of Canadian payroll.
Richard also earned an Administrative Assistant Certificate while in the Navy and completed a certificate in office management from Eskasoni. Most recently, he completed the Leadership and Supervision course with NSCC. Richard is currently a member of the Workers Compensation Committee, Policy Committee, Salary Review Committee and the Energy Efficiency Committee here in Membertou.

Payroll Administrator (currently on maternity leave)
In July 2015, Janelle was hired full-time in Membertou’s Human Resources Department as the Payroll Administrator. Previous to this, she has worked part-time for Membertou’s Purchasing Department while she completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration (Finance) through Cape Breton University.
Janelle is responsible for time and attendance, answering employee inquiries and questions, collecting and inputting data, remittances, payroll calculations and other payroll related duties.

Safety Coordinator / EMO
Connie was hired as a full-time safety coordinator in November 2004. Previous to that she worked with Membertou Public Works as a seasonal safety officer. Connie is also our Emergency Management Coordinator (EMO), a position she took in January 2008.
Connie's main duty is to ensure compliance with provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Peter assists the Safety Coordinator in the development and maintenance of Membertou’s Occupational Health & Safety Program and ensuring compliance with the provisions of the OHS Act.
He has previously experience as a Health Safety & Environment Advisor, and also different safety roles in Sydney and Eskasoni. Peter received his education in Occupational Health & Safety Certificate of Accomplishment program at the Nova Scotia Community College at Marconi Campus.
Peter joined Membertou’s HR department in 2015.

Human Resources Administrator
April Michael joined the Human Resources (HR) department in January 2017 as its Administrator. Before human resources, April worked with our Wellness Home as a Continuing Care Assistant, before returning to school for a career change.
Her daily responsibilities include assisting coworkers and community members with related enquiries, maintaining employee records, participating in employment interview processes, assisting with staff events, daily administrative duties, and other related duties as requested by the HR Manager and Director.
