21 Mar COVID-19 Update in Membertou
March 21, 2022
Good evening, Membertou
I wanted to provide an update, following the province’s briefing this afternoon.
Starting on Monday, March 21, 2022 the State of Emergency that our province has been under for two years, is ending.
With that, mask mandates are ending with the exception of schools, hospitals, long term care, and in jails. We will be following the provincial protocols, as we have been all along. Our schools will continue to mask, as will our health centre, and there may be other groups who decide they will still require masks for safety.
Our commercial businesses will follow the provincial protocols that relate to them. This is a very exciting time, and I know many are looking forward to the end of what has been a very long road with COVID. I do ask that as we open further, each staff member makes the choice that is right for them and their comfort level. If you still wish to wear a mask, please do. However, the only difference now is that it isn’t required in many spaces now. We support the personal choice for people to continue protecting themselves and others.
I want to once again say thank you to each of you, we’ve weathered this difficult time together. Today’s provincial announcements are a positive step in the right direction, but it’s important we move forward in a safe manner. In Membertou, we remain committed to our community and staff’s safety and wellness.
Thank you, Wela’lioq.
Have a nice weekend everyone,
Chief Terry
