Membertou Recovery Project
Membertou is building a 24-bed Addiction Recovery Centre and a 28-unit Sober Living Home, a community-designed and culturally grounded path to healing.
The project
What we’re building
The Membertou Recovery Project refers to a 24-bed Addiction Recovery Center and a 28-unit Sober Living Home, with mental health supports on the main floor. These buildings are part of a larger Membertou Recovery Continuum designed to support people walking the red road to recovery, regardless of where they are on their journey.
These buildings have been designed with the guidance of a Community Advisory Circle to be places where community members and others can begin or continue their healing journey close to home, centered in culture and with the best practice medical and clinical supports to address trauma at the root of addiction.
The Membertou Recovery Project is two buildings, each designed for a different part of the journey. Both buildings are modular, meaning the majority of the construction will be in a factory. This reduces on-site challenges, allowing the buildings to be delivered in a relatively short time frame. The lead builder on this project is 720 Modular Solutions.

The Addiction Recovery Center
This is where healing begins.
Care happens in a warm, welcoming space, not a clinical one. The building opens onto generous outdoor space for land-based healing. There is room for ceremony, gathering, walking trails, a medicine garden, and connection to water.
It’s anticipated Membertou will partner with a care provider to deliver the clinical and medical supports, while Membertou will retain oversight of the culturally-centered programming. Partnering will allow this facility to offer on-site detox in addition to a longer stay program, anticipated at 60 to 90 days.

The Sober Living Home
This is where people rebuild independence, with support and community close by.
The Sober Living Home is a five-storey building with a combination of studio, one-bedroom and accessible one-bedroom fully furnished apartments.
The Membertou Mental Health team will be relocated from the Membertou Health Center to the main floor, allowing easy access to counseling and other supports for residents. Shared spaces invite people to gather, share meals, take part in ceremony, and stay active. Every detail was shaped by an advisory circle of people with lived experience, family members and caregivers, and Elders.
